Week 28

Mommy has a lot of change to look forward to this trimester. My house is now sitting about 3 inches above her belly button, giving her that “I’m pregnant!” image. Mommy has some homework to do this trimester as well. On top of her actual college work, she has Mommy homework to do: counting my kicks (I should be kicking about 10 times in a two-hour period). Mommy also had one of the big pregnancy tests this week, the Glucose Test. She has an appointment in a couple of weeks to go over the results.

Mommy is so excited for me to arrive (only about 9-12 weeks until I make my big debut!). Mommy has experienced and continues to experience a few pregnancy symptoms. She has started feeling me pushing up against her ribs making it hard to breathe sometimes. She is also having problems sleeping…half of her insomnia is just excitement at how soon I will be here and her wanting to get everything ready for me and the other half is her killer backaches. I think Mommy’s backaches are definitely worse than that ligament pain she was feeling in the first months she was preggers. Her back is toting around about 20 extra pounds and her ligaments and joints are loosening, so they aren’t very supportive of her new added pounds. Fatigue is another symptom Mommy has. Mommy’s body is going through a 24/7 workout with me, rushing a lot of blood and nutrients and fluids my way and carrying all of the weight associated with it. Mommy has not been enjoying the combo of leg cramps and restless leg, especially when she really needs her legs to run for a potty break. Moving hasn’t helped any of this fun Mommy has been having, but she will stand by the fact that it is so worth going through the temporary discomforts to eventually see my beautiful face.

Belly Button News: No, it hasn’t popped, but it definitely looks different, kind of like an “innie-outie.” Not fully out, but not in like it used to be, either. This little turkey isn’t quite ready, yet… but I will be before you know it!

Bi-monthly Dr visits are on the books for the next couple of months. Mommy has her Feeding Class scheduled in September and Mommy and Daddy are registered for those infamous labor classes in October! Mommy and Daddy are so excited for me to arrive, but they can't believe how fast the time has flown by.

Daddy got a really funny book from one of his co-workers about pregnancy and getting ready to be a dad (called "My Boys Can Swim"). Mommy read it while Daddy was at Lowe’s picking up some tools (Mommy is starting to think they live way too close to home improvement stores!) and was laughing out loud on almost every page.

I am almost 2 feet long and weighing in at 2 pounds 7 ounces. This is my last week as an Eggplant!

Things I'm perfecting: coughing, sucking, hiccupping, breathing, blinking, maybe dreaming

This week things are getting rough… but it’s a great thing!  The smooth brain tissue is now starting to  mature and form grooves. My brain will continue to grow lots throughout my first year, so this is just the beginning!

My luscious locks are still growing; will I have a full head of hair when I arrive? Who knows!

This week, the books said I may decide to flip into the head-down position, but the Dr said that's not the case for me. I am still breech (feet down), but I have some time to do the big flip (Dr wants it to happen by week 36). I may not decide to “assume the position” for a while, but Mommy sure hopes I do so I am not a Breech Baby (not sure what that means, I think it means right side up is upside down…)

I’m still breathing…ish. My breathing patterns have been sporadic up until this week. Now I am breathing in patterns to reflect my sleep and play cycle. My lungs are strong from all of this practice and they will continue to strengthen during the rest of my stay in my current house.

I am gaining more fat so my skin is getting less wrinkled and more smooth… you know… like a baby’s bottom.

Can you guess what fruit or veggie I will be next week??
Drop by next week to find out!!
