The books have been suggesting that Mommy to starting thinking about her Birthing Plan... Mommy hasn't ever really liked being told what to do, but I think she's going to be even more certain of how she wants and doesn't want me brought into the world. My friend, Placenta has moved up and away from Mommy's cervix, which is a very good thing. The Dr was worried that if it stayed low-lying, Mommy could hemorrhage during a natural birth, so Mommy would have to go in for a C-Section (that was not welcome news to Mommy). Now that the placenta has moved up, Mommy and Daddy are praying it stays there so Mommy can have me the way God intended. Mommy has also been doing a lot of research on natural births versus Epidural births. Luckily, her friend had a natural birth so Mommy has someone to talk to about it and a woman to encourage her. Daddy is very supportive of Mommy's decision and will help her stick to the plan but I don't think Mommy likes Daddy telling her how it's going to feel or be like (Mommy says that's the EMT training in him)... especially since he doesn't have girl parts!
Mommy has gained about thirteen pounds so far... it's less than most Mommies gain, but she did lose quite a bit of weight those first few months of her pregnancy. The Dr says she's doing great and to keep up the good work... eating lots of fruits, veggies, healthy foods, and taking those essential Prenatal and DHA vitamins.
Mommy's belly is between volleyball size and basketball size these days. She has started to feel me all over her belly now, not just her lower belly. She can feel my legs stretch way down to the low left while my little arms stretch and tickle her right ribs. Speaking of ribs... Mommy's having occasional shortness of breath since my house has taken over her body. Lucky for her, I tend to hang out lower in her belly, so I'm not squishing her ribs too much. Mommy has been waiting for her belly button to pop out like a Turkey Timer, but it hasn't happened yet! Cici said her belly button never did "pop", so Mommy's may not either!
Back pain (possibly some sciatica pain) is the new normal for Mommy these days. As soon as that ligament pain stopped being such a problem, Mommy's body threw something else her way...me! Now that I am bigger, when I sit on or lay my head on Mommy's pelvic bones, I also lay on nerves which shoots pain through her very low back and leg. I'm also shifting her center of gravity, so Mommy's posture is changing. Mommy copes by stretching her back and legs, walking, putting an ice pack on her lower back, sleeping with lots of pillows, and having Daddy massage her lower back. The Dr told Mommy to make sure she sits up and stands up straight in addition to the other things she has been doing.
Love Mommy, but enough about her! Let's move on to ME!
This week I am about one and a half pounds and a little over one foot long! The fat I'm gaining is helping my arms and legs plump up and the rest of my body is looking smooth and less wrinkly like my Uncle Puppy, Rocky the Bulldog!
Structures of my spine that will eventually help to support my body weight are forming this week: 33 vertebrae, 150 joints, and 1,000 ligaments! Capillaries (they move blood from the heart to the other tissues in the body) are forming under my skin and filling with blood. Air sacs (those branches that started to grow in last week) are now lined with capillaries are developing in the lungs to prepare me for my first breath. My nostrils have been plugged up until now but this week they are starting to open so I can practice my breathing skills. My vocal cords are starting to work now too... Mommy and Daddy can't wait until they can hear my sweet coos! I have also been hiccuping, giving Mommy and Daddy a funny belly show.
Audrey Trivia: I can yawn in my house! Researchers think yawning helps me regulate my blood flow or the amount of fluid in my lungs.
I can still hear! Mommy knows this so she's been reading her pregnancy books out loud so I will recognize her voice... did you know that Mommy's voice will be one of the first sounds I recognize?
Stay tuned! Mommy and I are ending the Second Trimester next week and moving on to the Third Trimester! Mommy and Daddy are shocked at how fast the time has gone and can't wait to see my sweet face!!
See you next week!
