Last Thursday, Mommy, Daddy, and I went to the Dr where Mommy found out that she has finally gained weight and is past her pre-preggo weight. Normally, gaining weight wouldn't be good, but she knows that when she's gaining weight, I'm gaining weight so I can be cuddly and healthy when I arrive! The Dr took my measurements and announced that I am now weighing in at 1 pound 6 ounces! While this is good, it means I'm growing and have less room to move around in my house... which means Mommy is feeling every turn, kick, jab, and hiccup!
Mommy has been having issues with horses... she calls them Charlie Horses! She gets them in her calves (sometimes it's a rude awakening) and says it really hurts!!
Mommy has also started getting symptoms of "Pregnancy Brain." Forgetting things or getting words all jumbled up. I hear that stress, hunger, fatigue, and hormonal changes can make Mommy's forgetful.

At 1 pound 6 ounces, I am hitting above average on the weight growth charts! I am a little over a foot in length, too! From now on I am supposed to gain about 6 ounces per week. Those six ounces will be attributed to my gaining more fat (for those cute baby cheeks Mommy and Daddy can't wait to kiss), growing organs, bones, and muscle. Because I am gaining more fat, my cute little face is almost fully formed. I have eye lashes, eyebrows, and hair! What color is my hair going to be?? No one knows right now because there is no pigment in it yet, so for now it is white!
I am also looking more and more human each week, my proportions getting to where they are supposed to be. My organs, digestive, nervous, reproductive, and circulatory systems are maturing now, too!
My lungs are growing little branches in them this week. This last month of the second trimester, my lungs will start to produce sufactant which prevents my lungs from sticking to one another while in Mommy's belly, but after I make my big debut into the world, this stuff will help me breath air!
This week, the amniotic fluid is increasing in volume (adding to Mommy's weight gains), filling my house with up to two pints of fluid.
The big "K" starts this week. What is the big "K' you ask? Well, it's where new skin cells (created in the deep layers of my skin) move up, allowing me to shed dead skin cells and replace them with new ones... really important as I grow and grow my first year of life and the years after that.
That was a lot of biology to learn this week, huh?! Next week I will be entering Month 6, the LAST month before Mommy and I enter the THIRD TRIMESTER! Mommy and Daddy are so excited to meet me! Daddy can feel me moving around in Mommy's belly even more now and Mommy can feel every move I make. While they are waiting, Mommy is making me lots of onsies and is learning how to make sleeping gowns and cute dresses for me! Daddy is going to get started on refinishing all of my furniture (which is the same furniture that Mommy, Cici, and my cousins and aunts and uncles slept in!) and help Mommy decorate my nursery once they get into the house... they are supposed to move in just three weeks from now! How exciting! Jr can't wait to play in his new yard!
See you next week!!
